Our Story
In the fall of 1989 Dr. MacCabe moved to PA and began her practice in the Poconos while 6 months pregnant with her oldest child, Dan. She built her client base doing house calls while contractors built her brick and mortar building right next door to home. She continued doing house calls (with baby in tow) until the clinic was completed in the spring of 1990.
All four of her children were raised at home with a menagerie of beloved pets ranging from German Shepherd dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, and rodents, as well as the occasional wild foster bird. By necessity and proximity, they each gained extensive veterinary experience, and learned how to live with and care for all kinds of animals from a very early age — so it was no surprise when two of the four went on to become veterinarians themselves.
The Next Generation
At CVC we think of our practice as a lifelong commitment from our family to our community, and so we are especially proud of our second generation veterinarians:
Dr. Kathleen LaDuke — Cornell 2019, and
Dr. Caroline (LaDuke) Weirich — LMU 2024
Dr. Kat returned home to the Poconos to join the family practice in 2021 after two years practicing at a small animal clinic in Houston, Texas.
Dr. Caroline has recently settled in Florida after graduating from LMU in June 2024. We are so excited for the experience she’ll gain abroad, and we look forward to the day she’ll migrate home to join the family practice, too. ;)
